So, 2010 is winding down and you may be asking yourself, “Did I accomplish everything I set out to do this year?” Or maybe you’re asking yourself, “What can I do to make 2011 better than 2010?” These are questions that many people will be asking as they gear up for the New Year.
If you didn’t reach every goal you set out this year, let’s look at 2011 as a fresh start. It’s time to shake off all the negativity that surrounded 2010. There’s no point in beating yourself up over it. You learn from the mistakes made and you keep moving forward. Here are 3 tips that will help you make 2011 a better year!
Tip # 1: Approach the New Year with a positive attitude.
Attitude is everything. Believe in yourself and your abilities. You know what you’re capable of doing better than anyone else. Keeping a positive attitude is something that should be worked on frequently. Stay in the company of positive people and read information that is uplifting and encouraging. Remember the all too familiar quote by Zig Ziglar,
“Your attitude, not your aptitude, determines your altitude.”
Tip # 2: Stay focused
When situations become challenging, it’s easy to lose focus and revert back to old ways. Even though you may have only one big goal in mind, it may be easier to break it up into mini goals. Setting mini goals are a great way to chart your progress and stay positive. A lot of times people only set huge goals and because they don’t see changes quickly enough, they get discouraged and sometimes even give up. More times than not big goals require a lot of little steps; so take it one step at a time. Write out a daily schedule and/or keep a check list. A schedule or checklist will keep you on task and help you stay focused on your goal.
Tip # 3: Avoid dream snatchers
What’s a dream snatcher? A dream snatcher is someone that has a sole purpose of bashing every idea you have that seems to be out of the norm. Your goals and dreams aren’t always for everyone to hear because not everyone will understand. When others hear you say that you’re trying to do something new, such as start a business or move to a new city, they see it as an opportunity to give you their opinion. Sometimes their input is good and not so much at other times. A lot of times hearing negative feedback from people that you care about can make you question your decision. So be careful not to let someone else snatch your dreams of doing whatever you’ve set out to do.
Along with the tips above, make sure you have a good support team. No matter how driven you are, we all at some point or another could use a little positive reinforcement.
